How to Cook Spaghetti Squash

Spaghetti with meat sauce is pretty much a go to staple for dinner in our house, we eat it probably once a week. But man it’s amazing how many calories and carbs are in one bowl of spaghetti pasta. I mean just one cup of cooked spaghetti has 220 calories and 43g of carbohydrates and very little nutrients. By comparison cooked spaghetti squash has only 42 calories and 10g of carbs, not to mention nutrients such as Vitamin A and potassium.
Whenever I feel my waistline expanding I try to cut down the carbs like bread, potatoes, and of course pasta. Spaghetti squash is one of those substitutes that looks and tastes almost like the real thing so you don’t feel like you are missing anything while trying to eat healthy.

This is all good but how do you even cook a squash to make it look like spaghetti. Well today is your lucky day, here is  a step by step tutorial on how to do just that.

First wash and dry the outside of your spaghetti squash, then cut off one end. Be careful because these things are pretty hard and not the easiest thing to cut.

Put the squash cut side down so you have a stable base to cut open your squash. Go ahead and cut it in half lengthwise.

Now you have two halves, scoop out the insides and seeds with a spoon.

Baste the insides with olive oil, salt and pepper.

Put face down on a foil lined baking sheet. Bake in the oven at 375 for 45 mins or until they are easily pierced with a fork.

Here is what they look like cooked.

Just take a fork and scrape the insides, instant spaghetti!

Doesn’t it look just like spaghetti!

All that is left to do is add the topping of your choice and enjoy!
