Have you noticed a theme with my homemade cleaners? Yup. VINEGAR! It really is an amazing product, the fact that it is cheap only adds to the attraction. I thought I would do a post on how I use vinegar around the house.
Here are my top 10 Ways to use Vinegar around the home
1. Cleaning the Microwave
Pour some vinegar in a bowl and nuke it for about 1 minute. leave it in there a few minutes, then carefully remove the bowl cause it will be hot. Then just wipe down the microwave. Something about the vinegar softens up all the crud and everything just easily wipes out.
2. Cleaning your dishwasher
Again fill a bowl with vinegar and place in the top rack of your empty dishwasher. Run the dishwasher through an entire cycle with only the bowl of vinegar. Wipe clean.
3. Make your own Cleaners
You’ve already seen my post on glass and stainless steel cleaner. See my other posts on bathroom cleaner.
4. Use as a Fabric Softener
Just add some vinegar to a load of clothes in your washing machine! Or try making this amazing DIY Fabric Softener.
5. Clean your washing machine
Put a cup of vinegar in your bleach dispenser and a few cups in the water then run an empty cycle on hot. Clean and odorless machine!
6. In your bath
My daughter suffers from eczema and because of this she is always scratching making her skin prone to infection. I add vinegar (either white distilled or apple cider) to her bath water to decrease the bacteria on her skin.
7. Clean your garbage disposal.
I will be covering this in an upcoming post. But if you have ever mixed vinegar with baking soda, your know that chemical reaction could clean anything.
8. Clean your coffeemaker
Add half vinegar and half water mixture to the water reservoir and complete a cycle on the coffee maker. Let mixture sit in carafe a few hours discard and run the cycle again with plain water (until vinegar odor disappears, it make take a few times). Speaking of coffee check out my Coffee/Tea Bar
9. Clean your tea kettle.
I’m not a coffee drinker but I drink a lot of tea. Tea kettles often get lime and mineral deposits in them, I simple boil three cups of white vinegar for 5 minutes and then leave the vinegar in the kettle overnight. Rinse out the next day and its sparkly fresh.
10. Get rid of Fruit flies
Have you ever left old fruit out too long or brought home some fruit flies from the store. Well just leave a bowl of vinegar on the counter and you will have a bowl of fruit flies soon after.
