1) Make the time for yourself.
There are never enough hours in the day. But you have got to make the time for yourself. As a working mom of twins its quite hard to this, but enlisting help and prioritizing is key. Cooking is something that I do for my family so in order to the go to the gym 3 times a week. I follow a simple schedule and eat leftovers on the days I go to the gym. So I cook on Sunday, workout Monday, cook on Tuesday workout Wednesday after the girls soccer practice.
2) Don’t set yourself up for failure.
When I get home at 6 pm the last thing I want to do is go to the gym. The key for me is going straight to the gym after work, I pack a bag and change at work. I pick up the girls from school and we go straight to the gym. They get to play while I get my workout on. On the days the girls have soccer practice, my hubby takes them home while I hit up the gym.
3) Water is key.
It is so hard to get all your water in but I have a few easy things you can do. I drink water before I even leave the bed in the morning. When I wake up I open up my bible and drink a full bottle of water. Something else I have been loving lately is to put a glass of water with frozen fruit in it on my bedside table at night. In the morning the fruit has defrosted and the water has awesome flavor. Another way I get my water in throughout the day is having a cute cup on my desk at work. I fill it up with water throughout the day. The key to keeping track of how many glasses i’m drinking is simple with rubber bands. I know that i need to drink 6 glasses at work so I have 6 rubber bands on the straw of my cup. When I finish a glass and fill up again, I move the rubber band over the cup that way I know how many cups I’ve drank.
5) Make healthy choices.
Getting more fruits and veggies in my diet is hard for me. Smoothies make this a breeze. Even better I assemble smoothie freezer bags on the weekends so that in the morning I just have to pop it all in the blender and push blend. Also for a faster morning breakfast I love to make egg scrambles. I chop up onions, bell peppers and cilantro and put in individual baggies. In the morning I only have to empty the bags in the pan and add some liquid egg whites. I also like to bake egg muffins. I’ll be posting all these recipes soon. I also like to substitute spaghetti squash for pasta when I cook spaghetti, makes for a healthy alternative. Be sure to check my post on how to cook spaghetti squash.
