How to Paint a Brick Fireplace

For Christmas this year, I asked my BFF Andrea if I could redecorate her place. I was so excited when she said yes! Woohoo! I love decorating and I was just so excited to make her space even more beautiful but more importantly comfortable for her. She is an amazing and giving person and I really wanted to give her something she could see every day…what better than a room makeover. So she has this kick ass condo in the heart of Houston, the living and dining room are combined and it has bamboo floors and a great focal point in the room is a brick fireplace.

How to Paint a Brick Fireplace - Check out how I painted my friend's brick fireplace. It's easier than it sounds, promise!

The fireplace is red brick and kind of overwhelmed the space because of its size and color. We decided to paint it white! I know it sounds drastic and it is but talk about a change for the better, it totally brightens up the room and even makes it seem bigger. Stay tuned tomorrow for the rest of this amazing makeover!

How to Paint a Brick Fireplace

First step was to sand the brick, just to remove any particles, dust etc.

After we sanded I went over the brick with a vacuum to collect the extra dust.

Next we used a rag and a bucket of soapy water to clean the brick. And yes that is a margarita bucket…don’t judge us! lol

After that dried it was time for paint!
Eekkk no turning back now!

And here we are after the first coat, this was really easy to paint with the rollers but then we had to go back in with paint brushes and paint between the bricks to get the mortar

After a second coat these little spots are visible but we think they add character!

And Voila! I absolutely love it and more importantly Andrea does 🙂

See the rest of the room makeover soon!

I party with Remodelaholic
