I swear right now my girls have a better social life than I do. Every weekend we go to at least two birthday parties! There is always something they need to bring to school for this or that. It’s kind of crazy. There are just so many things going on to try to remember that I decided to try to get a family command center going. At the heart of that is a DIY bulletin board where we can post their monthly school calendar and then any party invites. Not only does it take paper/mail off the sideboard, but it’s where I can just grab the invite before we leave so i know the address we are going to.
It’s just the right size but man that thing is ugly. A quick Pinterest search made the solution an easy one. Cover it in fabric and add some upholstery nail heads and voila!
So just a few more supplies I picked up at Hobby Lobby for my DIY bulletin board project:
1 yard of Blue Chevron duck cloth
decorative tacks (1 box of 48, I had plenty left over)
staple gun
spray adhesive
First step: Spray the corkboard on your bulletin board with spray adhesive and place your fabric on top, work inch by inch smoothing it out as you go.
Next: Fold the edges like you are wrappign a present and staple. I actually put some spray adhesive on the back as well just to hold while i fiddled with the staple gun. I stapled as close as possible to the edge while keeping my fabric taut.
Remember to cut around the holes for hanging so you can still get this bad boy up on the wall!
Now you’re ready for the Nail trim, they are essentially just heavy duty thumb tacks, so i just pushed them into the corkboard along the edge.
I used my index finger as my spacer.
And Voila!
